Presidents Message

Arabian Working Cow Horse Association

My thought is to make this a prize for the winner of the Amateur class at U.S. Nationals. I think it is time we
have something for them to ride for. One of our members has spoken with a major beer company and we
are in the process of trying to put that together. I want to encourage all of you to seek out those sponsors
and remember that no amount is too small. They do add up in a hurry.
Our membership is growing quite well and I truly believe we will be able to add another delegate for the
AHA National Convention in Denver this year. So be sure and ask everyone you know of with an interest in
working cow horse to come on board and join our association.
There were a couple of good things that came out of our convention this year in Tulsa. We were able to get
a BOD’s motion passed that will allow for two preliminary go-rounds in the Working Cow Horse classes at
U.S. Nationals, with the Top Ten horses moving forward to the final go-round. This was an idea approved
at the AWCHA general membership meeting at U.S. Nationals this past year. The other item was Resolution
7-07, which allows our Junior horses to be shown in a bridle and in classes other than Junior Horse
classes and come back and be shown in a snaffle in the Junior Horse class.
Let’s make this a great year and if you have any questions, suggestions, or sponsors, please feel free to
contact me or any of the officers. We would love to hear from you any time. We’ll be looking for you down the
show road.
Thank You,
Larry Westmoreland

We have just finished a very exciting year for our
organization. This was the year for the rebirth of our
Working Cow Horse Futurity and what a success it was.
We had 17 horses entered in the purebred futurity and
13 in the half-Arab futurity. With approximately $38,000 in
prize money in the two futurities, this was a great start!
With US Nationals moving to Tulsa this year I really expect
these numbers to increase. So remember, get those
youngsters ready to go and enter them in this futurity!
It seems as though everyone is working to help get some
more added money into the Working Cow Horse classes.
I spoke with a trailer company in Oklahoma City and they
have agreed to donate a trailer a year to be given away
at U.S. Nationals.
